INDIANAPOLIS (Press Release) - Managed Health Services (MHS), an Indiana-based health maintenance organization serving Hoosier Healthwise (HHW) and the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP), is offering a new program to help members struggling with breathing difficulties, especially in the summer heat — the MHS Fan Club.
If the intense summer heat is not taken seriously, any number of heat-related illnesses can occur, ranging from severe cramps of the muscles in the arms, legs and stomach to the emergency of heat stroke. Heat stroke is a deadly combination of high body temperature and neurological symptoms. Anyone can get heat stroke, but people with heart, kidney or lung disease are at an even greater risk.
The MHS Fan Club is designed specifically for MHS members who suffer from pulmonary disease, such as asthma, COPD or emphysema, and/or congestive heart failure (CHF). These members have particular difficulty breathing during the summer months, and the program aims to make sure they have an operating fan in their home as well as additional education on their condition.
“By providing an electric fan and educational materials, the MHS Fan Club strives to help our members, especially those with pulmonary and heart issues, to stay healthier in their home environment and prevent any heat-related symptoms that may exacerbate their condition during the hot summer months,” said MHS CEO Patrick Rooney.
“We greatly appreciate the fan from the MHS Fan Club and all the support MHS has given me and my daughter," said MHS Member Veronica Swain.
After MHS distributes the LASCO box fan, a follow-up phone call will be made in subsequent months after the fan use to see how each member is doing and reassess any further needs.
